Throw an Interdictor into the mix and it can use artificially generated gravity wells to “plug the holes”, so to speak, putting “virtual moons” in orbit around the planet to further complicate the hyperspace calculations of escaping ships and forcing them to remain in realspace longer than they otherwise would. The astrographic positions of those moons complicates astrogation in close to the planet, limiting ships to either specific courses out of the system or requiring them to stay in space longer while they bypass the gravity well of a moon/moons. In the space shots of Hoth, multiple small moons can be seen in the space around the planet. As such, a ship with multiple gravity well projectors can provide area coverage by projecting gravity wells at tactically valuable locations, or if needs be, can aim all of its gravity wells at the same point to make one big gravity well (obviously, not as big as what could be generated by a single large gravity well projector, but still useful).įor example, consider the Hoth system. While the WEG rules don’t convert well into hard ranges, gravity well projectors were very much stand-off weapons (longest effective range in the game).
